WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are a tool used by web servers to store and retrieve information about visitors and users. They are text files that some servers install and that allow knowing, for example, from where someone connects to the server and how long they have been connected as well as whether they connect from a mobile device or not, what operating system and browser they use, what pages they visit most, how many clicks they perform and other information related to how a user behaves on the Internet. Cookies do not provide any information that might allow deducing a user’s name and they cannot access any data stored on a user’s hard disc or read cookies placed on a user´s hard disc by other servers. Cookies are not viruses and they do not install viruses.

While you can access the Web Site without cookies being enabled, doing so might prevent the site from working correctly. From a technical point of view, cookies enable web sites to provide high functionality and to adjust to the user’s preferences. Cookies allow, for example, to store information on the user’s preferred language, the currency of their country or the type of device they use. Cookies establish levels of protection and security that interfere with or even prevent cyber attacks against the Web Site or its users. Cookies provide media managers with statistical data that allows improving the quality of their services and the overall experience. TYPES OF COOKIES USED ON THE WEB SITE
Users browsing the Web Site may come across the following cookies placed either by the owner or by other entities:
- Session cookies that expire when the user leaves the page or closes the browser. They are active as long as the user stays on the Web Site and therefore will be deleted from the computer once they leave the Web Site.
- Persistent cookies that expire when they accomplish their purpose or when they are deleted manually. They have an expiration date and are mostly used to store on-line shopping processes as well as to retain personal preferences or log-in data, thus sparing the user from having to enter their password every time.
Depending on the entity operating the device or domain that places the cookies and using the data obtained, cookies are categorised as first-party or third-party cookies.
- First-party cookies are those placed on the user’s computer by the Web Site and used exclusively by the owner to ensure that the site can function smoothly and efficiently. The information obtained is used to improve the services provided and to streamline the user’s experience on the site.
- Third-party cookies are those placed by other entities than the owner when the user interacts with the contents and services accessible through the Web Site (e.g. clicking on social media buttons or watching videos rooted on other web sites). Third-parties are created by domains other than the Web Site. The owner cannot access data stored in cookies placed by other web sites when the user browses them.
